ORCHILD (written, directed, and filmed by college student Thao Dinh) tells the parallel story of a young girl (the "child") and her house plant orchid on a journey of love, loss, and healing.
The short film was completed in 2022, had a $0 budget, and filmed on a borrowed, vintage camera from the University's library over one weekend. The cast was entirely the creator's friends, and without their help, this passion project wouldn't be able to take shape like it did. Thao sends her most sincere gratitude to them.
ORCHILD was submitted to three film festivals in the U.S and won all three:
Cut International Short Film Festival Finalists in New Jersey (2022)
SATX Cinema Showdown Film Festival - Top 10 Short Films (2022)
Trinity University First Student Film Festival (2023)
In the rising age of AI, Thao feels the urge to create her first YouTube Channel and to share her original creations to the world and connect to real humans through her art. She has always meant for this short film to be the first video. May it find its place in the physical and digital world.
